Psychiatric Services

The Initial evaluation look at symptoms and when they happen, as well as what impact they have on family and work relationships.  Because psychiatrists are trained medical doctors, they usually prescribe medications, and they work mainly with patients requiring medication management as a course of treatment.

Your first visit begins with the Initial evaluation which is performed mainly by a psychiatrist, however, the initial can be performed by a nurse practitioner specializing in psychiatry.

Follow-up Visits –

It is important for the patient to conduct regular follow-up visits with the psychiatrist or nurse practitioner after they have their initial evaluation for mental illness. … A follow-up visit also helps healthcare providers detect early post-hospitalization reactions or medication problems, follow-up visits demonstrate continuing care and is necessary for patients receiving prescription re-fills.

Psychiatrist vs Nurse Practitioners

Functionally, the key difference is the training and authority to prescribe medications. Psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychiatrists have this privilege. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who complete specialty residency training in psychiatry and undergo more rigorous and specific training in medicine during their residency programs.

Therapy –

A mental health counselor helps individuals and families deal with difficult emotions, mental health disorders and trauma. A person with this title provides therapy and coaching to help his patients manage their stress, redirect disturbing emotions and set goals for themselves. Often, mental health counselors also help their patients learn to modify their behaviors for better results.
